I believe that the American dream and what it means to be and American has changed throughout the years. The country started out as wanting to have rights for every man in the country. This was something that Great Britain at the time did not have. This has changed drastically in the few hundred years we've been here.
When this country had first started, the majority of the people actually cared about the politics. People voted on what they wanted and who they wanted to help represent them in political debates. They wanted to be sure about their vote when they cast it. Since the country was new they probably didn't want to send the country on the wrong course right from the start.
Now, not a lot of people vote except for the presidential election. Most people only care about the icon of the United States and not what actually affects their daily lives. Votes such as where the taxes are, where funding goes, or some laws aren't very popular for most people. Some people talk about politics but don't know what is really going on because they believe in what they are told by friends and family members. They don't take the time to watch the U.S. Senate debates or hear about what policies are being passed and what they do.
