The Characters of Ch. 1

Anticipating Gatsby

Based on my research for the Great Gatsby, I found that Fitzgerald wrote to his wife Zelda. He seemed to write about love and meaningful characters. The things that the characters live in may be against the laws of prohibition in that time period.
The prohibition laws in the 1920s led to a lot of organized crime. The American mafia made a lot of money by making and selling illegal alcohol. The government at the time was losing a lot of money so they thought that if the criminals were gaining from the alcohol business why couldn't they? They then started taxing the distribution of alcohol.
